Crime Report: Farmington Hills Officer's Drive-Through Visit Leads to Drug Arrests

The following information was supplied by the Farmington Hills Police Department. Arrests and charges do not indicate a conviction.

A officer's trip to a drive-through window at a restaurant on Eight Mile led to the arrest of a northern Michigan couple early Tuesday.

According to the report, the officer spotted the 27-year-old East Jordan woman and 34-year-old Boyne City man in a vehicle parked at a neighboring restaurant. Noting suspicious activity, the officer approached and saw the man holding a knife. After ordering the man to let it go, the officer spotted plastic bags that suggested drug activity inside the car. The woman told the officer the two had been in Detroit purchasing drugs, the report indicated. The woman faces a charge of possession of narcotics paraphernalia, after she turned over a pipe that had been hidden in the front of her pants. The man faces charges of narcotics possession, specifically heroin and crack cocaine.

Drunken driving child endangerment arrest

A 54-year-old Farmington Hills woman faces charges of drunken driving child endangerment, after striking a vehicle and passenger at a gas station at Middlebelt and 12 Mile around 11:30 p.m. Monday. According to the report, the woman admitted drinking and told police she chose to drive because her son wanted pop, and she didn't want him to know she had been drinking. She also told police she didn't see the vehicle, or the pedestrian putting gas from a gas can into it, until the pedestrian pounded on her trunk. A preliminary breath test showed her blood alcohol was .16, twice the .08 legal limit. The woman's son was taken home; she was eventually released on $200 bond.

According to the report, the neighbor reported the dogs had been barking for three days and felt the owner may have moved and left them behind. The homeowner eventually returned and agreed to turn over the pig and one of several dogs to Oakland County Animal Control. The homeowner was also given a "courtesy ticket" for the remaining unlicensed dogs and a verbal warning to clean up the property, which was overgrown with weeds and brush, within two weeks.

According to the report, officers took the couple into custody after finding hypodermic needle caps, a needle and a black leather blackjack in the vehicle, along with a debit card that had been reported lost and cancelled. A search of the woman's wallet uncovered identification that did not belong to her, along with unidentified pills. The report indicated that police learned the identification belonged to a woman who reported a larceny in February.

According to the report, the officer followed the vehicle into a motel parking lot where the man rolled out and the vehicle rolled on, crashing into another parked car. The man ignored the officer's command to stop, even after the officer discharged his taser, and ran until he tripped on some landscaping and fell. The report indicated the officer was able to handcuff the man, who said he ran because he was driving on a suspended license. The man was taken to Botsford Hospital when he complained about trouble breathing.
