Crime Report: Teens Face Trespass, Narcotics Charges After East Incident

The following information was supplied by the Farmington Hills Police Department. Arrests and charges do not indicate a conviction.

A 19-year-old Farmington Hills man faces a narcotics possession charge after he and two friends were found sitting near the football field at East Middle School early Tuesday morning. 

According to the report, officers checking on a suspicious vehicle parked at the school found it unoccupied and found the three teens while searching the grounds. The report indicated that the 19-year-old was holding a jar filled with what appeared to be marijuana, and the man told police he planned to share it with his friends. The man was taken into custody and was later released after posting bond. His friends, an 18-year-old Farmington Hills woman and a 19-year-old Farmington Hills man, were ticketed for trespassing and released. 

Theft from vehicle

The owner of a vehicle parked in a business lot on Northwestern Hwy. on Monday told police someone broke in and took jewelry, a stereo and navigational device sometime between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. that day. The report indicated that the vehicle's left rear window was broken to gain entry.

Weapons incidents

  • A 40-year-old Detroit woman faces sanctions from the local gun board, after she failed to let a police officer know she was carrying a weapon when he stopped her vehicle early Saturday morning, at 12 Mile and New Market. According to the report, an officer stopped the woman's vehicle, after seeing it roll through the flashing red light at I-696 and Orchard Lake Rd. When he checked her background after speaking with her, he learned the woman had a concealed pistol license, which she had not revealed during their conversation. The woman told the officer she did not realize the law required her to disclose that information, the report indicated. The 9mm Glock and a magazine with 10 rounds of ammunition were confiscated, pending the outcome of a gun board hearing.
  • A 17-year-old Harrison High student was suspended from school Thursday and may face charges, after police found a knife in the glove compartment of his vehicle. According to the report, police were called to the school by an assistant principal and when the teen was questioned, he told the officer where the knife was located. The report indicated the case would be forwarded to the Oakland County prosecutor's office for review.

Drunken driving arrests

  • A 46-year-old Detroit man faces drunken driving and concealed pistol license violation charges, after his vehicle was stopped in an office complex parking lot at Farmington and 12 Mile around 10:30 p.m. Friday. According to the report, when police spoke with the driver, he appeared confused, and an officer spotted a handgun on the floorboard near the driver's feet. The driver appeared intoxicated; the report indicated he initially refused a preliminary breath test, but later, his blood alcohol was measured at .26, which is more than three times the .08 legal limit. The weapon, which had a round of ammunition chambered, was confiscated. 
  • A 44-year-old Walled Lake woman faces drunken driving charges following a traffic stop at 13 Mile and Drake at around 11 a.m. on Monday. According to the report, witnesses pointed out the vehicle, which was weaving on the road, and an officer noticed a strong odor of intoxicants while speaking with the driver. The driver refused a preliminary breath test and was taken to Botsford Hospital, where her blood was drawn. The driver posted bond and was released into the custody of a Bloomfield Twp. man. 

Narcotics arrest

A 26-year-old Westland man faces charges of possessing narcotics and narcotics paraphernalia, after a traffic stop at Orchard Lake and Park Hill Blvd. early Saturday morning. According to the report, an officer stopped the man's vehicle for having a defective brake light. The man agreed to a search of his vehicle and told the officer he had a marijuana pipe and a marijuana grinder in his pockets. The report indicated the officer found marijuana in the grinder. 

Littering

A 29-year-old Farmington Hills man received a ticket for littering, after officers saw him dump trash from his vehicle at around 9:45 p.m. on Friday. According to the report, the incident occurred at a convenience store parking lot on Middlebelt.

Identity theft

A Farmington Hills resident contacted police after learning that someone filed a tax return under his Social Security number. According to the report, the IRS told the man they had stopped payment on a $9,000 tax refund, because the name on the fraudulent return did not match the name they had on file for that Social Security number. 

Breaking and entering

The real estate agent representing a foreclosed home on Dunford told police someone took 10 feet of copper piping from the residence, some time between May 4 and May 10. According to the report, the agent said this was the second time this year copper had been taken from the house.
