Shoplifting charged

A 44-year-old Burton man faces charges after a employee spotted him taking items out of the store Monday without attempting to pay for them. According to the report, the store's asset protection manager told police that he saw the man take the merchandise, valued at less than $200, and hide it in his clothing. A check of the man's background showed warrants for similar crimes in Northville Township, Allen Park and Detroit, the report indicated.

Drunken driving charged

A 38-year-old Detroit man told police his van got stuck in the backyard of a residence on Lundy Drive as he was trying to turn the vehicle around late Christmas Eve. According to the report, police found the man revving the engine as the tires spun in the mud. The man said he lived one street over and had been trying to get to a friend's house when he attempted to make the course correction, the report said. However, the report noted that the vehicle was a significant distance away from the foot of the driveway, where the turn would have been made.

According to the report, police noted an odor of intoxicants, but the driver refused to take a portable breath test and so was arrested. A check of his background showed three prior alcohol-related driver's license suspensions and a warrant out of Wayne County with a $7,634 bond. After a court-ordered blood draw at Botsford Hospital, the man was lodged at the Farmington Hills Police Department.
