Crime Report: Tire Thefts in Farmington Hills

The following arrest information was supplied by the Farmington Hills Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Residents in two Farmington Hills apartment complexes contacted police Sunday morning after finding the wheels stolen from their vehicles.

According to the report, tires were taken from four vehicles at on Halsted and on Green Hills Road. The vehicles were left resting on concrete or landscaping blocks. While responding to the thefts, an officer also noticed a vehicle with the passenger-side wheel cap removed and lying on the ground. Evidence was collected at the scene of two of the thefts.

Attempted armed robbery

Two men attempted to rob a Marathon gas station on Orchard Lake Road on Saturday around 4 a.m. According to the report, the men walked into the store and demanded money from the register. The store clerk told police one was 5 feet 11 inches, 175 pounds and wearing a white T-shirt and black pants, with a flannel shirt covering his face. The other was 5 feet 11 inches to 6 feet tall, 150 to 160 pounds and wearing a black-and-gray-striped polo shirt with Army-green shorts. The clerk said after he told the suspects the register couldn't be opened, one man pulled a gun and tried to open the register. When the clerk grabbed the phone to call 911, the suspects ran out of the store.

Vehicle thefts

A 49-year-old resident on 12 Mile Road reported his 2000 gold Honda Civic was stolen from a carport space at his residence. According to the report, the incident occurred between 10:30 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. Sunday.

A resident on Cambridge told police that a 1996 Jeep was stolen from an open garage early Friday morning. According to the report, the vehicle was left unlocked, with the keys inside, as well as a GPS, tolls and other miscellaneous items valued at $325.

Marijuana arrest

A traffic stop at the M-5/Grand River split Monday around 5:20 p.m. resulted in the arrest of a 21-year-old Novi man for possession of marijuana. According to the report, an officer stopped the vehicle because of a large crack in its windshield. The driver was also ticketed for having expired insurance. A search of the vehicle turned up a baggie of marijuana in the glove box.

Vehicle damage

A driver contacted police on Sunday to report damage to his vehicle caused by a McDonald's drink cup. According to the report, the man had been driving on Grand River near Halsted Road when someone in a passing van tossed the cup out a window. Later, the man realized it had lodged in the driver's side headlight.

Utility trailer stolen

An employee at Green Leaves Inc. on Research Drive reported a black 2010 utility trailer left in a parking lot over the weekend was stolen sometime between 2:30 p.m. Friday and 5:30 a.m. Monday. According to the report, a locked truck parked in front of the trailer was moved 30 feet in order to get the trailer out of the lot. The trailer has a green "Billy Goat" leaf shredder welded to the front, with initials welded into it.

Teens arrested for shoplifting

Two 17-year-olds from Oak Park and West Bloomfield were ticketed Monday evening for shoplifting at on Orchard Lake Road. According to the report, a store employee saw the girls remove packaging from several items and place them in their purses. The two were stopped when they walked out of the store without paying for the $96 in merchandise. They were both issued tickets and released from custody.

Home invasions

In two midday incidents on Friday, apartments on Floralview and Strawberry Lane were entered after someone got into a furnace room and cut a hole in the drywall. At one apartment, an Xbox video game and Pentax camera valued at $800 were taken; at the other, a 46-inch television set valued at $1,800 was taken.
