Crime Report: Welfare Check Leads to Narcotics Arrest

The following information was supplied by the Farmington Hills Police Department. Arrests and charges do not indicate a conviction.

After repeated attempts to check on the welfare of the 40-year-old resident inside, say they broke into a home on Laurel Drive Saturday and found marijuana plants.

According to the report, officials were asked to check on the man at around 3:10 a.m. When they were able to talk with the man, he said he had weapons in the home; officers say they found and secured them. As they checked the home, police say they found marijuana plants growing in a closet in the master bedroom, where the guns were found. In addition to charges of drug possession, police say the man may face a felony firearms charge.

Drunk driving arrests

A 45-year-old Novi man faces a charge of operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, after his vehicle was stopped for speeding at Grand River and Sinacola Ct. early Sunday morning, according to a Farmington Hills police report. According to the report, an officer saw the vehicle reach speeds of more than 85 miles per hour on I-275, near Eight Mile Rd. and followed as it exited onto Grand River. A portable breath test showed the man's blood alcohol was .089, which is more than the .08 legal limit. The report indicated the man posted $200 bond and was released to his wife.

Around 2:30 a.m. Thursday, a 38-year-old West Bloomfield man was arrested on a charge of operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, after an officer stopped his vehicle at 12 Mile and Farmington Roads, because it was being driven without headlights, according to a police report. According to the report, the man told police he lived in two different cities and could not tell them his specific address. A portable breath test showed his blood alcohol level was .11, more than the .08 legal limit. He was released on bond.

Trailer fire

Farmington Hills police and departments responded Monday afternoon to vehicle fire at Middlebelt and Grand River. According to the report, police arrived to find smoke and flames coming from a utility trailer attached to a pick-up truck. The 24-year-old driver, who works for Wild Brothers Landscaping and Snow Removal, told police the trailer became unlatched and the hitch dragged on the cement road. He quickly stopped the vehicle, then saw smoke coming from the rear of the vehicle.

Narcotics arrests

A 20-year-old South Lyon man and an 18-year-old Brighton man were arrested around 10:30 p.m. Sunday, after police stopped their vehicle for having a vision obstruction dangling from the rear view mirror and a loose rear bumper, according to a Farmington Hills police report. According to the report, when the officer talked with the driver, he spotted eight packets of heroin in the man's jacket pocket. The passenger told police he had narcotics in a cigarette box in his pocket, and officers found two folds of heroin and a clear cellophane packet containing crack cocaine, according to the report. Both men were arrested on charges of narcotics possession; the driver was also ticketed for the vision obstruction.

Theft of tires and wheels

A resident on Middlebelt told police someone took the wheels and tires from his 2010 Ford Fusion sometime between 11 p.m. Monday and 7 a.m. Tuesday. According to the report, the vehicle was parked in the lot of an apartment building. It was left balanced on a car battery and landscaping blocks. All the wheels had locking lugnuts, the man told police.
