Crime Report: Woman Reports Attempted Armed Robbery

A 41-year-old Farmington Hills woman on Timber Ridge Circle told police that she saw two men, one armed with a gun, in her apartment building around 9 a.m. on Monday. According to the report, the woman said she buzzed a man into the building thinking he was her son. When she opened her front door, she saw a man wearing a red shirt, black pants and black ski mask in the hall. He turned toward her, pointing a semiautomatic gun, and she closed and locked the door. She then ran to a window and watched as the man and a second suspect wearing a gray shirt and shorts ran to a vehicle and drove off.

Breaking and entering

A 35-year-old man left his home on Ontaga Avenue on Monday morning and returned at 5:30 p.m. to find the front door had been forced open and a number of items taken. According to the report, an iPad, two computer monitors, a digital camera, a pocket bike, 25 video games and a phone charger were missing.

Retail fraud

A manager at CVS on Nine Mile Road told police a man took a digital camera from the store on Monday around 11:20 a.m. According to the report, the man, described as 5 feet 8 inches tall, 160 pounds, with brown hair and forearm tattoos, came into the store with a woman about 5 foot 7 inches tall, 155 pounds, with long, dirty-blond hair. She left, and he used a knife to cut the camera out of its packaging and then left the store without paying for it. The manager said he saw the man run to a car waiting on Haggerty just north of the store's parking lot. He was able to give police a license plate number.

Juvenile mischief

A teacher working at on Sunday at 12:20 p.m. saw a young boy pour iced tea through an open window in her room. According to the report, a group of boys was still on the property when officers arrived. One 10-year-old admitted to having been up on the school roof; another boy pointed out the 10-year-old who had poured the iced tea. The two 10-year-olds were taken home to their parents, and the other boys were asked to leave the property.

Malicious property damage

A clerk arrived at the BP gas station on Grand River early Sunday morning to find someone had torn up trees, plants and shrubbery on the property. According to the report, landscaping materials were strewn around the parking lot. Police believe the damage happened sometime between 1 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. Sunday.

Narcotics arrests

On Sunday at 4:40 p.m., an officer on patrol in the area of M-5 and Halsted watched a vehicle cross over onto the shoulder several times. According to the report, the officer pulled the vehicle over and was "overwhelmed with the smell of fresh marijuana." A search of the vehicle turned up a 64-gram baggie of marijuana, and the 17-year-old Redford Township man was arrested on a charge of marijuana possession.

A 42-year-old Brighton man, a 41-year-old Howell man and a 28-year-old Howell woman were arrested Sunday evening after an officer stopped the vehicle on M-5 near Drake Road because the driver was not wearing a seat belt and the windshield was cracked. According to the report, as the van pulled to the side of the road, the officer saw a clear baggie fly out from the passenger window. The driver's license had been suspended 10 times, and he and both passengers had warrants out for their arrest from other cities and the Michigan State Police.

A 29-year-old Milford man was arrested late Saturday afternoon on charges of heroin and narcotics paraphernalia possession after his vehicle sped past emergency vehicles on M-5 near Orchard Lake Road. According to the report, the officer who made the traffic stop found a syringe cap in the man's pocket, and a search of the vehicle turned up a clean syringe and a small container that contained heroin. The man was also ticketed for driving with a suspended license.

Road rage

A 55-year-old Dearborn man told police that he was involved in a road rage incident with the driver of a sport utility vehicle in the early afternoon on Sept. 6. According to the report, the two men tangled near 13 Mile and Drake roads. When the Dearborn man drove on to a friend's house on Drake, the SUV driver followed. When the Dearborn man got out of his car to get the SUV's plate number, the SUV driver swerved toward him. The Dearborn man told police he had to jump out of the way to avoid being hit, but he was able to get the license plate number.
