Farmington Hills Firefigthers Complete Staff and Command School

Two ranking members of the recently graduated from the prestigious School of Fire Staff and Command at Eastern Michigan University.

Shift Lieutenant Jason Olszewski and Fire Inspector Michael Kish III graduated last week from the class, which targeted officers who are destined to become senior leaders within their Department.

They were members of the 13th session of the Staff and Command School, which has seen a number of other Farmington Hills fire officials attend as well. Olszewski and Kish were nominated and then selected to attend the grueling 350-hour program. They attended class one week out of every month that focused on taking them past traditional operational methodology, and exposing them to conceptual thinking and problem solving.

The goal of the class was to have students develop their own leadership skills, and explore the realities and challenges of leading in the public safety environment. It also discussed functions of leadership, sources of leader influence, various styles of leadership, and several leadership theories.
