Farmington Hills Investigators Search for Cause of Sunday Green Hill Blaze

Fire destroyed an 8-unit building, but no one was injured.

Farmington Hills Fire investigators are working today at  on Nine Mile Rd., where one 8-unit building was destroyed and another was damaged in an early Sunday morning blaze.

According to Lt. Denny Hughes, a call came in around 4:30 a.m. reporting a "patio fire".

"The first arriving fire unit saw flames on the back side of the building, all the way up to the roof level," he said. "The breeze fueled the fire and got it to extend farther than it would have."

Hughes said police and a tenant, who was up early to go to the airport and spotted the flames, knocked on doors to evacuate the affected building and the one next door. No one was injured, and one cat was rescued, he added.

Of the 16 units, 12 were occupied, and Green Hill owners are working to relocate residents within the complex, Hughes said.

Around 40 firefighters from four stations, and seven trucks, responded to the scene, and fire investigators worked there all day.

As for the cause of the fire, Hughes said, "We have nothing concrete at this point."
