Farmington Hills Man Faces Charges in Lincoln Park Home Invasion

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy alleges that Justin M. Acosta, 18, and Xavier M. Jones, 22, of Onondaga, broke into a Lincoln Park home on Nov. 7.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy announced that Justin M. Acosta, 18, of Farmington Hills, and Xavier M. Jones, 22, of Onondaga face charges of Assault with Intent to Murder, Armed Robbery and Home Invasion First Degree in connection with a home invasion in Lincoln Park.

Jones has also been charged with Larceny of a Firearm, Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Felony Firearm.

According to a press release from Worthy's office, the defendants broke into a home in the 1400 block of Fort Park Street in Lincoln Park, at around 9:40 a.m. on Nov. 7. The 69-year-old home owner and the defendants exchanged gunfire, and the defendants ran away with a hand gun that was stolen from the home. The 69-year-old was unharmed and immediately called the police.

Jones and Acosta were arrested by the Lincoln Park police shortly after the incident. The two were arraigned on Friday and remain in jail in the 25th District Court. A preliminary exam is scheduled Nov. 20.

These days, I see home invasion stories in the news way too often. Usually intruders just kick-in the door. In my opinion, the most effective and least expensive thing you can do to protect yourself is to add good door security hardware to your doors to make them as secure as possible. You can get what's called a Door Security Pro ( http://www.DoorSecurityPro.com ) which will stop door kick-ins. It's a long, thick metal plate that reinforces wooden door frames which is what usually breaks when someone kicks in a door.

I don't know what to "click" on to find the garage sales. They used to be "rightRead More there" when I opened the Patch email everyday. I am assuming they are now listed under something else and I guess I need instructions as to where to find it and what to click on to get to them. thanks

Grama, in addition to our Thursday map, you can click on the Events link at the top of the page, andRead More along the left side, you'll see "Garage Sales". Just click on that, and you'll see all the listings. They should be among the events in our newsletter, too. Hope that helps!
