Farmington Hills Mother Faces Child Neglect Charge

The following information was supplied by the Farmington Hills Police Department. Arrests and charges do not indicate a conviction.

A 24-year-old Farmington Hills woman living with her 3-year-old son in a motel on Grand River faces a charge of child neglect, after workers found the boy crying and alone in the business parking lot.

According to a Farmington Hills Police report, motel employees told police shortly after 10:15 a.m. on Friday that the mother had been seen walking away from the motel about 15 minutes earlier. The mother returned a few moments after police arrived and told officers that she left her son sleeping while she walked to a nearby gas station to pick up a few items, the report indicated.

A check of the woman's background turned up a warrant for failure to appear on a probation violation, and the woman was taken into custody. The report noted there was food in the refrigerator, and the child showed no signs of abuse.
