Members of the Farmington Hills Police Department joined agencies from throughout Oakland County on Friday to participate in The Law Enforcement Torch Run fundraiser for Special Olympics International.

The relay, which included eastern and western legs that came together in Southfield, raised money and awareness for athletes who participate in Special Olympics Michigan.

"Michigan's Torch Run program had a record breaking year in 2012, raising over $1,000,000," according to its website.

During the western leg of the run, Farmington Hills officers ran east on 14 Mile Road from Haggerty to Orchard Lake Road, for the hand off with West Bloomfield Township Police Department.

The eastern and western relay legs were slated to come together in Southfield and wrap up with a pizza party at the city's Civic Center.
