Farmington Hills Police Calls: Breaking and Entering, Drug Arrests

A portable breath-testing machine is among the items missing from a Hills man's home.

A 32-year-old Farmington Hills man who lives on Jefferson Court told police Monday that he returned home around 9:15 p.m. to find a laptop, gold chain, digital camera and portable breath tester (PBT) missing. According to the report, he told police the windows and doors were locked when he left home, but there was no sign of forced entry. The man reportedly said he is on probation out of the 47th District Court and required to use the PBT.

Breaking and entering

Responding to a burglary alarm, police arrived at a business on Northwestern Highway on Monday around 4 p.m. to find a door on the north side of the building had been shattered. The business owner, a 51-year-old Franklin man, reported the items stolen were an iMac computer and 42-inch LCD screen. According to the report, police found tire tracks on the lawn where a vehicle apparently backed up over the curb and parked near the broken door. The owner told police his business is closed, pending a move to a new location.

Drug possession and open intoxicants

Three men were arrested Sunday around 5:30 p.m. after a traffic stop at Eight Mile Road and Inkster reportedly led to the discovery of open alcohol containers, marijuana and crack cocaine. According to the report, police patrolling in the area stopped the vehicle in which the men were riding because of a defective brake light. While speaking with the driver, an officer noticed the odor of intoxicants and spotted open alcohol containers. A search of the vehicle turned up a baggie of marijuana and two small baggies with crack cocaine in them under the driver's-side floor mat. The driver, a 27-year-old Belleville man, was charged with marijuana and crack cocaine possession; the passengers, both from Detroit, were ticketed for having open intoxicant containers in the car. Both were also arrested on outstanding warrants.

Larceny from a vehicle

A 65-year-old resident at Hunter's Ridge told police that groceries, shoes and $5 in coins were taken from her car while it was parked in the community garage. The incident reportedly occurred sometime between Friday and Saturday evenings.

On Friday morning, a resident reported someone had broken into three vehicles parked in a driveway on Skye Drive. A GPS, computer briefcase containing only keys and paperwork, and a racing helmet were reportedly stolen sometime between Thursday at 8 p.m. and Friday at 11 a.m.

Marijuana possession

Police arrested a 22-year-old Holly man for marijuana possession and driving with a suspended license Saturday around 9:40 p.m. after discovering the drug in his vehicle. According to the report, police stopped his car near M-5 and Orchard Lake Road because the license plate light was not functioning and a check of the vehicle showed the owner's license had been suspended. The man reportedly told police there was marijuana in the vehicle's center console, but officers also found a small bag sitting on the front passenger seat.

Drunken driving

Police arrested a 36-year-old Las Vegas man early Tuesday morning for suspected drunken driving after he refused to take a breath test. According to the report, an officer stopped the vehicle at 14 Mile and Haggerty roads after the driver went around "Road Closed" barricades on Halsted, placed due to flooding, and turned left on 14 Mile through a solid red light. The driver, who reportedly failed field sobriety tests, told an officer he was trying to locate a friend and was told only that the location was on Halsted. A check of his record showed a prior drunken driving conviction in Michigan and one in California.

A 21-year-old Hamtramck woman arrested Saturday on a charge of operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol became so uncooperative that an officer had to hold her in place to get a mug shot. According to the report, police were called to the at Nine Mile and Middlebelt on Saturday around 1:55 a.m. to check on a couple parked behind the store.

The woman reportedly told police she pulled into the lot because the car had a flat tire. Officers noticed a strong odor of intoxicants, and the woman was unclear about where she was. A portable breath test showed a blood alcohol content of .195, more than twice the .08 legal limit. As she was arrested, the woman reportedly became angry and verbally abusive toward officers but calmed down after her photo was taken. A check of her record showed her license was suspended and there were two warrants out for her arrest, out of Westland and Detroit.

Possession with intent to sell marijuana

Farmington Hills and Detroit police officers worked together to arrest a 19-year-old Farmington man after Detroit police received tips that he was selling drugs to students and others in the community. Surveillance reportedly showed he was engaging in activity common to narcotics transactions, according to the report.

After obtaining the man's phone number, a Farmington Hills officer texted him with a request to purchase marijuana, according to the report. The suspect agreed to meet in the Independence Green apartment complex, and when he pulled into the parking lot, officers confronted him. They reportedly seized 16 grams of marijuana in the vehicle, along with $110 cash, four cell phones, baggies and plastic containers, and an iPod.

Bomb threat

A Bloomfield Township resident contacted authorities Friday afternoon after receiving a bomb threat by phone. He told police that he had been getting calls for the Home Depot in Farmington Hills because his phone number was mistakenly printed on a store flier. He said he believed the called threat was for the store. Police contacted the Home Depot manager; employees searched the store and found nothing suspicious.
