Farmington Hills Police Calls: Drug Arrests, Accidental Shooting

A Farmington Hills man called police after accidentally discharging his shotgun.

A resident at called police on Feb. 18 around 9 p.m., after accidentally discharging his shotgun. According to the report, police arrived to find a shotgun blast had gone through a bedroom closet wall and into a television set in the adjoining room. The man told police he had been cleaning his gun when it went off. Police reportedly found a loaded handgun and one other rifle in the apartment; all the guns were legally owned, and the man had a license to carry the handgun.

Drunk driving

An officer patrolling on 12 Mile Road on Feb. 20 at 1:20 a.m. watched as a motorist crossed left of the center line several times. According to the report, the driver, a 32-year-old Detroit man, appeared intoxicated and recorded a .19 blood alcohol level on a portable breath test. Once under arrest, the man reportedly became combative and uncooperative, even through the booking process. He later apologized for his behavior, according to the report.

Marijuana possession

Officers patroling in the area of M-5 and Drake Road on Feb. 19 at 4 p.m. spotted a driver who was not wearing a seatbelt make several aggressive turns without signaling and follow other vehicles too closely. According to the report, the driver, a 24-year-old Farmington Hills man, had an outstanding warrant out of Wixom and was driving with an expired license plate displayed. The driver reportedly produced a current registration with the tab attached, but had no proof of insurance, and consented to a search of the car.

Officers found a glass pipe in the driver's pocket, and he was placed under arrest for possession of drug paraphernalia. A further search reportedly uncovered a small baggie of suspected marijuana. In addition, police found five baggies of suspected marijuana in a backpack that reportedly belonged to a 20-year-old Farmington Hills man who was a passenger in the car. Both men were taken into custody. The driver was ticketed for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, no proof of insurance, following too close, improper display of license plate and not wearing a seatbelt. The passenger was ticketed for marijuana possession.

Drug possession

On Feb. 18, officers responded to a 9-1-1 call reporting four men dressed in black were walking on Brookview Street near a black car. According to the report, officers found four Farmington Hills men, ages 17, 18, 19 and 20, inside the car and an odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. While searching, police found a glass marijuana pipe on the front passenger side floor, next to the 17-year-old, who reportedly admitted it was his. He agreed to a personal search, and officers reportedly found a chewing tobacco container with three tablets that were later identified as Adderall. The teen was arrested, and the other three men were released at the scene.

Stolen gas

An employee of told police that on the morning of Feb. 18, four workers went out to their vehicles and found spilled gas on the ground directly underneath the gas caps. According to the report, the district was unable to determine the amount of gas stolen and would review security tapes to see whether the theft was recorded.

Minor in possession of alcohol

Police were called to a vacant home on Lyncastle Lane on Feb. 18 at 11:50 p.m. to check out a suspicious vehicle parked next to the house. According to the report, officers found the house secure, and the vehicle running. Two teen-agers inside the car, a 17-year-old Farmington Hills girl and an 18-year-old West Bloomfield boy, were reportedly laying down and both were half-dressed.

A search of the vehicle turned up an open bottle of vodka, which the Hills teen told police was hers. She reportedly admitted to consuming a small amount of alcohol and was arrested for being a minor in possession of alcohol and having an open container of intoxicants. The West Bloomfield teen was released at the scene, and the girl was taken to her parents' home. The student was reportedly on probation out of the on a charge of marijuana possession at school.

Stolen vehicles

A 42-year-old Farmington Hills woman who was an overnight patient at admitted on Feb. 17 told police she discovered after her release that her car had been stolen from the parking lot. Security video reportedly showed a dark vehicle pulling into the parking space next to the woman's car, then both vehicles left the lot and turned onto Grand River, according to the report.

A 47-year-old Farmington Hills woman reported her car stolen sometime between Feb. 15 at 8 p.m. and Feb. 16 at 12 p.m. She told police her car was last parked in the lot of her apartment complex on Nine Mile Road. Police reportedly found no broken glass at the scene.
