Farmington Hills Police Calls: False Report, Vehicles Stolen

Police say a boy who reported he had been robbed on his way home from the bus stop was not being honest.

Farmington Hills police say an 11-year-old boy who told them a man robbed him on his way home from a bus stop on Jan. 31 made a false report. The boy reportedly told police he had been walking on Jefferson Court around 7:50 a.m. when a man came up from behind, grabbed him in a bear hug and took the boy's iPod Touch. Police said they learned the following day that the story was false.

Vehicles stolen

A 20-year-old Farmington Hills woman and her 58-year-old father, who is from Detroit, told police Jan. 30 that the woman's car had been stolen from a parking lot sometime between 12:01 a.m. and 4 p.m. According to the report, the woman told police the 2002 black Dodge Intrepid had been locked, and she found no broken glass at the scene.

  • Officers responding to a call about an abandoned vehicle on Eastfield at 6:30 a.m. on Jan. 26 found a van in the ditch. The motor was still running, the sliding door was open and the car door and ignition appeared to have been "punched", according to the report. While officers were investigating, they were notified that the owner of the vehicle had reported it stolen from his driveway.
  • On Jan. 25, a 40-year-old Farmington Hills woman reported that her Plymouth Voyager was stolen from the parking lot at on Grand River, while she was in the store with her son. The woman told police she entered the store at 7:15 p.m. and when she returned at 7:50 p.m., the van was missing.
  • Also on Jan. 25, a nurse at told police her 2004 red Chrysler Sebring had been taken while it was parked in the lot closest to the hospital, sometime between 6:50 a.m. and 7:35 p.m. According to the report, the hospital is reviewing its security tapes.

Marijuana possession

Officers who responded to the report of a suspicious vehicle at 12:40 a.m. on Jan. 30 found two 16-year-old boys in the car on Glenmeur Street, who appeared to be smoking marijuana. According to the report, heavy smoke and a strong odor of burnt marijuana emanated from the vehicle when officers made contact with the driver. While searching the vehicle, officers reportedly found a glass marijuana pipe and a baggie of marijuana, marijuana grinders, packets of rolling papers and a rolling machine. The teens, one from Farmington Hills and the other from West Bloomfield Township, were charged and released to their parents.

Burglary

A 46-year-old Livonia man told police on Jan. 29 that he arrived at a house on Tuck Road that he had been watching for a friend who was in Florida, and found the front door damaged. Officers found the bedroom dresser drawers were taken out and placed on the floor and a pillowcase was missing, along with some jewelry. According to the report, the landlord told police a previous tenant had been evicted and the locks had not been changed.

Shoplifting at T.J. Maxx

The loss prevention officer at told police she observed a woman place hair products and shirts in her purse on Jan. 29 around 4:15 p.m. When confronted outside the building, the 30-year-old West Bloomfield woman admitted to taking the items, valued at $108.88, according to the report. Officers arrested the woman, and as they were searching her, reportedly found she was wearing two tank tops with the tags still attached; they were valued at $12.99 each. The woman was charged with retail fraud and released on bond.

Loud party

Officers responding to a loud party at on Jan. 29 at 1 a.m. reportedly arrived to hear yelling and screaming coming from one of the apartments. As they approached, some people reportedly scattered, but about 20 remained inside the apartment. The tenant became confrontational, officers broke up the party and issued her a ticket for having an open house party, according to the report.

Drunk driving, marijuana possession, assault arrest

After observing a vehicle driving with its headlights off at M-5 and Orchard Lake Road aroun 3 a.m. on Jan. 29, officers made a traffic stop and noticed a strong odor of burned marijuana coming from the vehicle. The driver, a 41-year-old Sterling Heights woman, reportedly admitted that she had been drinking and failed field sobriety tests. A portable breath test showed a .188 blood alcohol level (more than twice the legal limit of .08) according to the report, and officers found marijuana in the car. The woman, who reportedly had two previous convictions for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, became combative, and assaulted an officer and an emergency room technician at Botsford Hospital. She was charged with operating under the influence, marijuana possession and assault, and ticketed for driving without headlights.

Employee embezzlement alleged

The managing partner of Global Consulting on Hamilton Court told police that an employee had set up a PayPal account in order to receive funds for services he had not provided. According to the report, the company creates resumes based on client-provided information, and the employee had allegedly taken funds from clients, who told the company they had not received resumes. The embezzlement was discovered after the employee requested a leave of absence; he was subsequently terminated. The loss was estimated at $1,300, according to the report, and occurred between Nov. 4 and Jan. 28.
