Farmington Hills Police Calls: Home Invasions, Bullying

Three homeowners report burglaries on Monday.

The following reports were filed with the during the past week:

Home invasions

Three homeowners told police they returned home on Monday afternoon to find their homes had been robbed of jewelry, electronics and other valuables.

According to reports, homeowners on Hunters Court, Kingswood Square and Hampsted reported the daytime home invasions. In each case, doors were found pried open. The homeowner on Hunters Court told police the home was equipped with an alarm, which was armed, but the alarm company did not report a "trip".

Missing man

A woman living on Inkster Road told police her father went missing around 9:30 p.m. Monday. Officers reportedly found the 88-year-old man, who has dementia, walking along Grand River, west of Orchard Lake Road.

Marijuana possession

Officers responding to a report of a man passed out in a car on Ashley Drive and Fink Ave. Monday around 2 a.m. found the man in a car with a 12-pack of beer cans on the front passenger floorboard and an open container of beer in the center console cupholder. According to the report, after rousing the 45-year-old man, he told officers he was parked in front of a house he lives in with his mother. A search of the vehicle reportedly turned up a burned marijuana cigarette. The man was arrested on charges of marijuana possession and having open intoxicants in a vehicle.

Theft from vehicle

A 45-year-old resident on Ashley Street told police someone stole a laptop computer, iPod, wallet and baseball bag containing equipment from his unlocked vehicle sometime between 9 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. Monday. According to the report, there are no suspects.

Stolen backpack

A 14-year-old Southfield boy told police someone stole his backpack, containing an iPhone and skating equipment, after he set it down at Riley Skate Park in Saturday between 3:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Driving while intoxicated

A 37-year-old Nevada man was arrested Sunday at 4:30 a.m., after officers spotted him driving erratically in the area of Grand River and Waldron. According to the report, the driver almost struck construction barrels in the roadway before he was stopped. He told police his Michigan license had been suspended several times; he carried a Nevada identification card. Officers reported noticing a strong odor of intoxicants; a portable breath test showed a blood alcohol level of .13, over the .08 legal limit. The man was reportedly ticketed for driving without and license and operating a vehicle while under the influence. A check of his background reportedly found warrants out of 3rd District Court for embezzlement and Wixom for failure to appear in court.

Jewelry stolen from patient

A Farmington resident told police Friday that her 81-year-old mother's wedding and engagement rings had been stolen. Her mother, who has dementia, lives in a facility on 12 Mile Road, and a supervisor there reportedly told police other thefts had been reported, and an internal investigation is underway.

Attempted home invasion

A 49-year-old resident on Whittington learned her dogs' puzzling behavior Thursday night apparently signaled an attempted break-in. According to the report, the woman told police her dogs barked at a door a number of times around 11 p.m., but did not appear to want to go outside. At 6 a.m., she reportedly discovered a pry mark on an exterior door. Police reportedly found no other evidence at the scene.

Bullying and threat

Police responded to Warner Upper Elementary School on May 19 and spoke with a mother who said her 5th grade son had been threatened by a schoolmate while on the bus. According to the report, the woman's son has had an on-going problem with the other child. While there was no physical altercation, the woman's son said the other boy said, "I'm going to kill you." on the bus. Later, the boy's father showed up at the woman's home and banged on her door, but left when she did not respond. The woman felt that school district officials were ignoring her requests to help her son.
