Farmington Hills Police Calls: Prowler, Marijuana Possession, Lost Woman

A Detroit man with a long criminal record is arrested for prowling through a Hills neighborhood.

A 41-year-old Detroit man was arrested for prowling early Monday morning after officers found him running east on the south side of 12 Mile Road. According to the report, a resident on Hidden Trail called police just before 2 a.m. after watching a tall man walk into his driveway and then approach two other homes in the neighborhood.

The man arrested reportedly matched the description given by the resident, and a vehicle registered to him was found in the area. The Detroit man's explanation as to why he was in the neighborhood didn't make sense to the officer, according to the report. A K-9 team tracked the man to a spot 350 yards from where a breaking-and-entering alarm had gone off at a home on Plumbrook around 3:25 a.m. The man also reportedly had seven convictions on his record, for home invasion, breaking and entering, vehicle theft and disorderly conduct.

Drunken driving arrest

An officer patrolling parking lots at 12 Mile and Orchard Lake roads early Sunday morning spotted a driver apparently passed out in a vehicle parked and running in a lot at the southeast corner of the intersection. According to the report, the officer knocked on the driver's door several times before she responded, and after she made several unsuccessful attempts to roll down the window, the officer opened the door. The driver, a 50-year-old Farmington Hills woman, reportedly failed field sobriety tests and refused a breath test. Her dog was in the car and was also taken to the police station when she was arrested.

Marijuana possession

An officer patrolling in the M-5/Orchard Lake Road area early Saturday morning arrested the driver of a vehicle that was stopped because its speed varied widely and it had a nonfunctioning brake light. According to the report, the officer noticed a strong odor of marijuana, and the driver admitted he had a baggie of the drug in the driver's side door pocket. A search also reportedly turned up a small bag containing a hard yellow substance, which driver said was "weed candy." The 18-year-old Livonia man was ticketed for marijuana possession and the equipment violation.

Lost woman

An elderly Farmington Hills woman was returned to her home Saturday afternoon after a resident saw her fall on the sidewalk at Rocky Crest and Power Road. The Farmington Hills Fire Department arrived to care for the woman, who was confused and did not have identification. Papers with a phone number and an address for the group home where she lives were found in her purse, and she was returned to the home.

Driving under the influence

A citizen report of a possible drunken driver led to the arrest of a 31-year-old Las Vegas man on charges of drug possession and driving under the influence of narcotics early Saturday morning. According to the police report, officers stopped the vehicle around 3:50 a.m. at Grand River and Sinacola as the driver was leaving the . His speech was reportedly slurred, and he had difficulty maintaining his balance and staying awake. The man told police he had taken Xanax; he said he had gotten lost and thought he was in Canton. A search reportedly turned up marijuana and half a dozen pills. The citizen reportedly tailed the vehicle and watched as it traveled at speeds of 90 to 100 miles per hour on Interstate 696, nearly causing accidents several times.

Damage to vehicles

Two cars parked in a lot on Middlebelt Road were reportedly "keyed" sometime between 5:30 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. on Friday.

On Thursday, a 26-year-old Farmington Hills man told police he parked his car in the lot at Pony Express on Eight Mile Road at 9 p.m. Wednesday and returned at 10 a.m. the next day to find someone had damaged the steering column. There was no damage to the door locks.

A 41-year-old Novi woman reported that sometime between 9 p.m. Wednesday and noon Thursday, someone cut out the catalytic converter from her vehicle while it was parked at Vani Foods on 10 Mile Road.

Stolen liquor

The manager of CVS on Nine Mile Road reported the theft of three bottles of liquor around 5:20 p.m. Thursday. The man told police he found three empty boxes for Patron Silver in the store's liquor aisle. A review of the store's security tape reportedly showed a man in his 20s, 5 feet 10 inches, 220 pounds, with brown straight hair, a goatee and mustache, wearing baggy jeans and a gray sweatshirt with a red stripe across the shoulders, removing the bottles from their boxes and hiding them in his pockets.
