Farmington Hills Police Calls: Reports of Child Neglect, Obscene Conduct, Embezzlement

A Southfield woman told police her child's father, who lives in Farmington Hills, left their 2-year-old home alone.

officers responded to a civil dispute call at 11 a.m. Saturday on Hamilton Avenue, where they were told by a 23-year-old Southfield woman that the father of her 2-year-old child had left the toddler home alone, the police report said.

The report said the woman told police that after the father, a 25-year-old Hills man, called her repeatedly, she suspected he was intoxicated. The woman told police the man had his daughter for a weekend visit, and after the phone calls, she drove to his home, the report said.

After reportedly finding her daughter alone inside the house, she took the girl with her, the report said. She said that as she was leaving, she spotted the father riding a bike and confronted him, then took her daughter home, returned and called police.

According to the report, the Hills man voluntarily took a portable breath test, and his blood-alcohol level was 0.076. He reportedly told police that he had left the house to use the phone at a friend's house. He was advised not to contact his child's mother, which was a condition of his probation, the police report said.

The Southfield woman was advised to contact the Oakland County court to establish a structured visitation, police said.

Obscene conduct tickets

Officers responding at 2:15 a.m. S6aturday to a report of a suspicious vehicle at found a couple inside the car engaged in sexual conduct. According to the report, officers noticed the odor of intoxicants coming from the car and found that the 20-year-old Farmington Hills man and 18-year-old Livonia woman in the car were both intoxicated beyond the 0.08 legal limit. They were ticketed for obscene conduct and minor in possession of alcohol, and since neither could drive the car, both were then taken to their respective homes, the police report said.

Concealed weapon found

An officer traveling in the area of Interstate 696 and Orchard Lake Road stopped a vehicle at 10:20 p.m. Friday after watching it exit the east ramp and turn north onto Orchard Lake Road, completing the turn on a red light. According to the report, a check of the license plate showed that the vehicle's owner, a 35-year-old Detroit man, had a current license suspension and a warrant out of Redford. The officer reportedly noticed an odor of marijuana, and the Detroit man had a small amount of marijuana but also had a current medical marijuana card. A search of the vehicle turned up an 8-inch knife between the driver's seat and console. The man was arrested for driving on a suspended license, carrying a concealed weapon and the outstanding warrant. He also was ticketed for disobeying the traffic signal.

Check theft reported

The owner of told police March 23 that he received a call from a Detroit business owner to verify a payroll check a customer was trying to cash. According to the report, the Advance Auto Sports owner, a 37-year-old Commerce man, said the 26-year-old Detroit woman who was trying to cash the check had never worked for him. The Detroit business owner reported that the woman left in a car that matched the description of a vehicle that had been brought to the Advance Auto Sports shop by two women during the previous few days. One of the women reportedly quarreled with an employee, which left the other woman was alone in the office, the Commerce man told police. The police report said the store owner found that nine other checks were missing, one of which was cashed in the amount of $797.83. He told police he intended to close the account, the police report said.

Video shows breaking and entering

Officers responding to a burglar alarm at 4:40 a.m. March 20 at found a broken window on the east side of the building, a police report said. An officer entered through the 16-inch hole in the window after finding the exterior doors locked, according to the report. A surveillance video reportedly shows a man dressed in dark clothes entering through the broken window and taking some items, later determined to be magazines, from the store, the police report said. A store employee told police no money was taken from the cash register, the report said.

Embezzlement reported

The owner of , a 68-year-old Orchard Lake man, told police on March 17 that someone had stolen 600 parts from the business. The workshop manager, a 58-year-old Romulus man, told police it probably took several weeks for someone to have removed the large amount of parts, valued at $90,000, from the shop without the theft being noticed, the police report said. The case remains under investigation.
