Farmington Hills Police Gives Tips for Preventing Burglary

The department said it has received several reports of recent residential break-ins.

The Farmington Hills Police Department is advising residents to be vigilant about locking their car and home doors in light of several recent reports of break-ins.

According to a release sent out by the police, in some of the recent burglaries, garage doors were left open and garage door openers were taken from unlocked cars.

Police said that in the summer, people tend to leave windows and doors open, increasing their vulnerability for a break-in. They offer the following suggestions to help prevent you from being a victim.

  • Keep entry, garage and car doors closed and locked. Keep valuables out of plain view. 
  • Keep ground level windows and doorwalls locked and utilize a security bar in the doorwall. 
  • Consider exterior motion sensor lighting. 
  • Keep trees and bushes well trimmed around windows and doors. 
  • While away, play a radio or television and stop mail/paper delivery.
