Farmington Hills Police Investigate Apartment, House Break-Ins

Residents report coming home to find their doors kicked in or locks jammed.

Farmington Hills Police are investigating a number of attempted and completed home invasion and breaking and entering reports over the past week. 

The following reports were filed between Nov. 28 and Dec. 3:

A resident in the 30000 block of Hunters Drive called police on Nov. 28 to report damage to the front door lock of her apartment. According to the report, an attempt to pry the lock open jammed it, so that the woman wasn't able to enter her apartment. Police found nothing disturbed inside.

The property manager of Village Green apartments called police on Nov. 29 to report the door to an apartment on Floralview had been forced open. According to the report, the door was split in half. While none of the electronics were missing, the resident report several items of 14K gold jewelry were taken. 

A resident on Jefferson Court called police Nov. 30 to report the door to his apartment was pried open sometime between 5:45 a.m. and 4:45 p.m. According to the report, the apartment was ransacked. A 46" television set, two gaming systems and video games, and a Remington 870 shotgun were taken. The report indicated the items may have been removed in a black duffle bag, which was also missing.

A business owner with offices on Orchard Lake Road contacted police after finding a television set had been stolen sometime between Nov. 29 and Nov. 30. According to the report, evidence indicated the thief or thieves entered through the ceiling, possibly from an adjacent office that was left open. 

A resident in the 27000 block of Independence called police Dec. 1 to report two video gaming systems, a tablet and video games were stolen from his apartment between noon and 3:30 p.m. that day. 

Police discovered a squatter may have broken in to a vacant residence in the 21000 block of Colgate Ave. According to the report, a neighbor called authorities on Dec. 2, after seeing that the back door had been kicked open. Police found food on a desk, but no one was inside the home. 

A resident in the 37000 block of Spring Lane told police he arrived home on Monday afternoon to find his apartment door forced open, but nothing was missing from the apartment. 

Homeowners in the 22000 block of Tredwell Ave. returned home Dec. 3 to find a bedroom window broken and an American Express credit card missing. According to the report, the credit card company reported the card had been used at a drug store; police reviewed the surveillance footage and identified a suspect. 

A resident in the 37000 block of Spring Lane reported that someone pried open the front door of his apartment and took a 32-inch flat screen television set, sometime between 7:30 a.m. and 4:20 p.m. on Dec. 3. 

Residents in the 29000 block of Citation Circle reported returning home on Dec. 3 to find their apartment doors kicked open. In two cases, nothing was taken. The other resident had items including a 55-inch flat screen television set, video game consoles, video games, an iPad and cash taken. 

A resident in the 29000 block of Meridian Place called police on Dec. 3 after finding the apartment door kicked open. Nothing was missing, and the report indicated that a large dog inside may have scared away the thieves.
