Farmington Hills Teen Faces Narcotics, Trespassing Charges After Harrison Incident

A 17-year-old Farmington Hills teen faces charges of trespassing and marijuana possession, after students at Friday night's Harrison-North Farmington game at Harrison High told police about a fight involving the teen, who no longer attends the school.

According to the report, the teen had been warned by a school administrator that he would be charged with trespassing if he came onto school property. The officer searched the teen after taking him into custody and discovered two small bags of marijuana. 

Narcotics Arrests

• An officer who stopped a 20-year-old Southfield man for making an illegal turn at Grand River and Middlebelt late Monday night found a small bag of marijuana in the man's vehicle, under a ticket for a similar traffic offense written earlier the same day. According to the report, the officer noticed the odor of marijuana while talking with the driver, who also had expired registration and insurance coverage. The officer found a number of marijuana "roaches" in the vehicle ashtray. The Southfield man faces narcotics possession charges and was ticketed for the illegal turn. 
• A 64-year-old Commerce Twp. man faces narcotics possession charges after his vehicle was stopped at W. 12 Mile and Halsted late Monday night for having a broken headlight. According to the report, the officer noticed a strong odor of marijuana and spotted marijuana seeds on the vehicle floor. The driver told the officer he had an expired medical marijuana card. A search of the vehicle turned up a pill bottle containing marijuana, which the driver said he purchased it before his medical marijuana card expired. The report indicated that the marijuana was confiscated. The man was ticketed for the broken headlight and released. 

Theft

Priests at a Catholic church on Middlebelt called police on Sunday to report the theft of a framed stole that had belonged a priest who passed away earlier this year. According to the report, the clergymen provided police with information about a possible suspect and requested a follow-up investigation. 

Breaking and entering

A woman in the process of moving from a home in the 20700 block of Ontaga called police after discovering someone had broken into a shed on the property. According to the report, the woman's boyfriend spotted a broken window on the shed, and when she inspected the property, she found items she had packed strewn throughout the building. 

Shoplifting arrest

A 35-year-old Farmington Hills man faces a shoplifting charge after a store employee saw him walk out of Kroger on 12 Mile Thursday evening without paying for the $64.02 worth of groceries in his cart. According to the report, a witness gave a description of the man's vehicle and license plate number, and said a woman and a small child were in the car. The report indicated that police used the license plate information to locate the man, who admitted stealing the groceries, even bagging some of them before he left the store. He told police he is "struggling financially."

Drunken driving charged

• A 44-year-old Birmingham woman faces a charge of drunken driving, after an officer clocked her vehicle traveling 53 miles per hour in a 35-mile-per-hour zone on 14 Mile west of Drake at around 1:15 a.m. Friday. According to the report, the woman didn't stop until she reached a red light at 14 Mile and Drake. The officer noticed a strong odor of alcohol; a preliminary breath test showed the woman's blood alcohol level was .16, which is twice the .08 legal limit. She was released into her husband's custody after he posted $200 bond. 
• A 21-year-old Southfield man faces charges of drunken driving and having an open alcohol container, after an officer spotted the man's vehicle stopped on 12 Mile near the Wayne State University Oakland Center shortly before 1 a.m. on Sept. 12. According to the report, the driver told the officer that he thought he pulled the vehicle off the road after running out of gas. The officer noticed a strong odor of alcohol; a preliminary breath test showed the man's blood alcohol was .178, more than twice the .08 legal limit. A check of the man's record showed he has 28 driver's license suspensions, plus seven prior suspensions requiring plate confiscation, the report indicated.
• A couple who told police they were trying to find a hotel after leaving a wedding reception both face charges following a traffic stop at 12 Mile and Middlebelt at around 1:30 a.m. Sunday. According to the report, the driver, a 28-year-old Lincoln Park man, turned left against a red light, while on the wrong side of Rollcrest. A preliminary blood alcohol test showed his blood alcohol was .20, more than twice the .08 legal limit. He faces a charge of drunken driving and was ticketed for the driving infraction. The passenger, a 27-year-old Dearborn Heights woman, was ticketed for having an open container of alcohol in the vehicle. 

Catalytic converter theft

A Farmington Hills resident on Botsford Drive called police after discovering someone took the catalytic converter from her vehicle sometime between 9:30 p.m. Sept. 12 and 2 p.m. on Sept. 13. According to the report, the woman said she noticed a problem when she started her car and it sounded louder than usual. She then noticed the vehicle's exhaust had been detached and was hanging on the ground.
