Farmington Hills Woman Arrested Friday Has Medical Marijuana Card, Attorney Says

An attorney for a Farmington Hills woman arrested Friday on charges of manufacturing and possession of marijuana says his client has a medical marijuana card and caregiver certification. 

Steven Schwartz appeared in  this afternoon with his client Christine Frederick, 47.  to reporters following the , both charged in the murder of Bob Cipriano and assault on Rose and Salvatore Cipriano in their Farmington Hills home. 

Judge Marla Parker adjourned today's pretrial exam conference to May 18, 8:30 a.m., based on an agreement between the defendant and Oakland County prosecutor's office. 

Frederick, 47, was taken into custody on April 28 by the Directed Patrol Unit. Police said the charges are related to an ongoing narcotics investigation and not tied to the Cipriano case. 

Schwartz said Frederick underwent surgery on June 2, 2011, prior to an October, 2011 narcotics raid that is connected with the charges. He said his client was issued a medical marijuana card before the raid.

The Michigan Medical Marihuana Act of 2008 allows patients to possess no more than 2.5 ounces marijuana. Caregivers are allowed to cultivate no more than 12 marijuana plants in an "enclosed, locked facility." The act allows a physician to certify a patient for a medical marijuana card to treat or alleviate a "serious or debilitating medical condition."
