Farmington Hills Woman Convicted of Murdering Husband Seeks Clemency

Nancy Seaman is one of 10 women represented by the Michigan Women's Justice and Clemency Project.

Nancy Seaman, a former Farmington Hills schoolteacher convicted in 2005 of murdering her husband, Robert, is among 10 women whose clemency petitions have been presented to Gov. Rick Snyder by the Michigan Women's Justice and Clemency Project.

Director Carol Jacobsen told the Detroit Free Press that the organization "files petitions with governors who are nearing the end of their elected terms with the hope that they’ll make decisions without fear of political fallout."

Almost a year ago, a federal court appeals panel denied Seaman's bid for a new trial. She has not denied that she killed her husband with an axe in May of 2004, but said that he abused her. Robert Seaman died of a fractured skull and multiple wounds, the Farmington Observer reported in 2004

The couple lived on Briarwood Court, in the 13 Mile and Halsted area; police found Robert Seaman's body wrapped in a tarp in the back of Nancy Seaman's Ford Explorer, which was parked in the garage.

Seaman and the other 10 women seeking clemency have all applied before and been denied, according to the Free Press report. Their applications will first be reviewed by the Department of Corrections before being passed on to Gov. Rick Snyder.
