Farmington Police Calls: Disorderly at the Library, Drunk Driving, Bad Check

A 35-year-old Farmington Hills man is arrested after watching pornography on a library computer.

Police were called at 6:30 p.m. after a librarian observed the man fondling himself as he watched a video, according to the report. The man had also been "flagged" by library personnel in 2009, for questionable behavior. He was reportedly charged with disorderly conduct, but was turned over to because of an outstanding civil bench warrant.

Found: One iPod

While having his car washed at at 1:40 p.m. on March 6, an officer was approached by a 20-year-old Farmington Hills man who reportedly found an iPod in an outside garbage can. The officer checked the serial number, and found no record that the MP3 player had been stolen. There was no information on the iPod that would identify the owner. It was taken to the Farmington Public Safety Department; if it is not claimed within 30 days, the person who found it may claim it.

Drunk Driving Arrests

A 31-year-old Livonia woman was stopped in the area of Grand River and Halsted at 1:59 a.m. on March 6, after driving through a solid red light. According to the report, she told police she was coming from a bar in Redford and did not remember running the light. The officer reportedly noticed a strong odor of intoxicants, and administered field sobriety tests, which the woman failed. A portable breath test indicated her blood alcohol level was .12, which is over the legal limit of .08. She was arrested and charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

An oficer, patroling on Grand River during a March 5 rainstorm, stopped a vehicle near Cass after the driver failed to dim the bright headlights. According to the report, the driver, a 23-year-old Detroit man, did not have a license, and the officer detected a strong odor of intoxicants while speaking with him. According to reports: two cups of wine were  found inside the vehicle, and the driver and both passengers – a 19-year-old Detroit man and a 31-year-old Eastpointe woman – admitted they had been drinking. The driver was arrested and charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, driving without a license and on a traffic citation warrant out of the 36th District Court. The passengers were both cited for having an open container of alcohol in a vehicle; they were transported to the station and released. 

Window broken

A 53-year-old Leonard woman told police that while she was visiting a friend at Country Apartments on Freedom Road March 4, someone broke the rear hatch window on her vehicle. While some expensive items were reportedly in plain sight, nothing was missing. The incident occurred between 4:20 p.m. and 8:15 p.m.

Bad check

Police were called to bank on Farmington Road March 4 after a teller spotted what appeared to be a bad check. The teller, a 57-year-old Farmington woman, told police a 46-year-old Detroit man had tried to cash the check earlier in the day, but did not have required identification. According to the report, he returned later in the day with appropriate ID, but the teller noticed the written amount on the check was difficult to read and didn't seem to match the numerical amount.

According to reports: the bank manager called the account holder, a 62-year-old Bloomfield Township man, who said he had not issued the check. The Detroit man said he had received the check in exchange for roofing work. He was arrested.

Soliciting without a permit

Police responded on March 1 at 3:10 p.m. to a report that two men were selling meat and seafood door-to-door in the area of Hayden and Cloverdale. According to the report, the driver of the "Chicago Meats" van, a 24-year-old Garden City man, said he did not have a permit. A background check showed he is a registered sex offender. He was ticketed for soliciting without a permit and having an expired license plate.
