Farmington Police Calls: Stolen Vehicle, Drunk Driving

Police arrest a teen who allegedly took a vehicle from Waterford.

officers arrested a 15-year-old Beverly Hills girl on Feb. 12 at 4:30 a.m., following a call for assistance from the Waterford Police Dept. According to the report, Waterford police said the girl had taken a vehicle and was likely at the at Grand River and Drake Road. Officers found the described vehicle parked at the gas pumps, and found the teen inside. She was handcuffed and searched; police reportedly found a gallon plastic bag containing suspected marijuana in her purse, which was open on the gas station counter. While officers were taking inventory of items in the vehicle, they found a full, open bottle of vodka, according to the report.

The teen was taken to Children's Village; a juvenile petition was prepared for charges of marijuana possession and minor in possession of alcohol.

Suspicious circumstances

Police were called to on Feb. 11 at 3:38 p.m., after a resident reported seeing two men enter an apartment through a bottom floor window, then leave by the building's front door. According to the report, because of other reported break-ins, three officers responded to the call. They spotted two men with heavy jackets walking in the area. Although an officer pulled up behind them with lights flashing, the men reportedly continued walking until an officer called for them to stop and drew his weapon. They were identified as two Farmington teens; a third teen who lives at Drakeshire told officers he let the teens in through the window.

Marijuana possession

While on patrol on Grand River near Halsted at 11:19 p.m. on Feb. 9, an officer reportedly saw a driver who was not wearing his seat belt and did not signal when entering M-5. The 24-year-old Novi man had a suspended license, and a baggie of suspected marijuana was found in his right front pocket, according to the report. The driver was arrested for driving with a suspended license and marijuana possession.

Feeding cats

A resident on Briar Ridge Lane contacted police on Feb. 9 at 11:30 a.m. to complain about neighbors feeding feral cats. According to the report, the woman told police that city ordinance officer John Konscol sent a letter warning residents against feeding the animals, but the caller said she believes some still are. An officer reportedly contacted the residents to let them know they may end up in court if they continue to feed the cats.

Drunk driving

An officer patroling on Grand River near Whittaker stopped a vehicle with a cracked tail light and snow covering the license plate. According to the report, the driver, a 32-year-old Farmington resident, was unable to produce registration and insurance for the vehicle, which he told the officer had been purchased from a friend in Rhode Island. However, the officer reported the license plate was registered to a person other than the person associated with the vehicle identification number.

In addition, the driver reportedly failed a field sobriety tests and appeared intoxicated. A search of the vehicle turned up a bottle of orange juice mixed with vodka. According to the report, the driver refused a breath test and was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated and ticketed for the equipment violation. A check of his records reportedly showed three previous drunk driving convictions in Oklahoma, where the man's license was revoked.
