Farmington Police Make Arrest in CVS Thefts

The Detroit man was arraigned Thursday on five counts of retail fraud.

A 35-year-old Detroit man has been arrested in connection with a series of thefts at the downtown Farmington .

On Feb. 8, officials asked for the public's help in identifying a man they said had been caught on tape stealing liquor from the store. (Click here to read ) Acting on a tip, detectives conducted surveillance in a Detroit neighborhood and on Thursday, detectives arrested Jason Allen Schwemle.

In a release issued Friday morning, Commander Frank Demers said that during an interview, Schwemle confessed to his involvement in the crimes and admitted that he had committed upward of 15 thefts from the store since November.

According to the release, Schwemle admitted to officers that he gave the bottles of liquor to a third party in exchange for heroin. 

Demers said Schwemle had no ties to Farmington and has a criminal background that includes larceny and narcotics-related crimes.

Schwemle was arraigned Thursday by Magistrate Michael Sawicky on three counts of third-degree retail fraud and two counts of second-degree retail fraud.

Sawicky entered a plea of not guilty on Schwemle’s behalf. Bond was set at $7,500. Schwemle is being held at the Oakland County Jail pending a pretrial hearing scheduled at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.
