UPDATED: Farmington Public Safety Investigating Floral Park Burglary

The break-in occurred Monday between 7 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Farmington Public Safety Director Robert Schulz said this afternoon that police now believe a burglary Monday in Farmington's Floral Park subdivision is not tied to a string of crimes that have occurred in the area of 9 Mile and Middlebelt Roads. 

An initial report released through Nixle.com indicated the crime may have been related, but Schulz said "after investigating, we believe that this is not tied to anything in the past."

reported Tuesday morning that a resident in the 30800 block of Nine Mile returned home Monday to find the front door forced open and jewelry and other items missing. According to officials, the incident occurred between 7 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Police in Farmington Hills about home invasions and business burglaries in the area from 9 Mile Road to 10 Mile Road between Middlebelt and Orchard Lake Roads. Residents will meet with police Feb. 7 at 6:30 p.m., at , to discuss crime prevention. 

Residents have also banded together on Facebook, with a page devoted to sharing crime prevention information

Before this incident, the most recent break-in occurred at on Middlebelt north of 9 Mile in Farmington Hills. Hills Police that they had arrested a 42-year-old Detroit man in connection with that incident. Another suspect arrested earlier this month is believed responsible for 10 home burglaries in the area, police said. 

In a release sent through Nixle.com, police encourage homeowners to take additional safety measures. Porch lights should be left on at night. All doors and windows should be locked. Sliding doors should be secured with a locking pin so that the door cannot be lifted off the track. 

In addition, residents are asked to report any suspicious persons, vehicles or situations to the police. Anyone with information is asked to call 248-474-4700 or if immediate help is needed, call 9-1-1.
