Farmington Public Safety Warns About Tire Thefts

Residents find the wheels taken from their vehicles early Wednesday morning.

Farmington police are investigating thefts that took the wheels out from under two vehicles in the early morning hours on Wednesday.

The first reported incident occurred in the River Glen Condominiums on Grand River. A resident walked to his vehicle and found it propped up on patio blocks, with all four wheels and tires missing. Investigators learned that another resident had seen a stocky man crouched down near the attacked vehicle as she walked to her vehicle at approximately 5 a.m., but thought the man was just changing a tire, and so didn't call police.

The second incident occurred in the Valley View Condominiums, also on Grand River. As a resident began to pull out of a parking space, a front wheel fell off of his vehicle. He discovered the wheel's lug nuts had been removed. Authorities believe it is likely the same suspect attempted to remove all of the wheels and tires from this vehicle, but was scared away.

Anyone with information about these incidents should call Farmington police, 248-474-4700.

According to officials, it is uncommon to find someone changing a flat tire in a multi-family complex in the early morning hours. Anyone who sees that type of activity should immediately call 9-1-1.
