Bergeron was a resident of Royal Oak. According to a court document posted online, he formerly lived in a home on Ballantrae in Farmington Hills that was destroyed by fire on March 29, 2012

The lone occupant of the home was awakened by his dog barking and suffered back injuries when he jumped to safety. According to news reports, which did not identify the man, the dog also escaped the blaze.
