Fire Marshals Compete at Farmington v. Harrison Football Game

Either Farmington Hills Fire or Farmington Public Safety will win 50 smoke detectors, depending on the game's outcome.

Farmington Hills Fire Marshal Jason Olszewski and Farmington Fire Marshal Reggie Madeline will go head-to-head during Friday's Harrison Hawks vs. Farmington Falcons football game, to win 50 free smoke alarms.

Olszewski learned about the competition when he attended a conference for State Certified Fire Inspectors. Kidde Corp., an approved manufacturer of life saving equipment, is offering 50 of their 10-year lithium battery-powered smoke alarms to the fire marshal representing the community of the winning team in Friday night's game.

The losing Fire Marshal will install smoke alarms into residential homes of the winning Fire Marshal’s community.

When Olszewski approached Madeline and laid out the wager, Madline's response was “Game on”.

The Fire Marshals will be at the game cheering on their local teams and will be at a booth with Fire Safety information and slips to register to win free smoke alarms. Winners will be announced after the game.

Since 1987 the International Association of Fire Chiefs Association has joined forces with Energizer batteries to spread the message that non-working smoke alarms are responsible for needless home fire deaths and injuries.

Olszewski and Madeline encourage all residents to adopt the simple, life-saving habit of changing smoke alarm batteries when changing clocks back from daylight savings time to standard time. They will tell you that this is an easy, inexpensive, and proved way to protect your family and your home.

Also, if your smoke alarm does not have a manufacturing date, then it is older than 10 years and must be replaced. The 10-year lithium battery powered smoke alarms are recommended by both Farmington Hills and Farmington Fire Prevention.
