Man Charged in Party Store Owner's Death Waives Conference

Cassalle Nettles will be back in court later this month.

The man charged in the shooting death of Tom’s Party Store owner Duraid Lossia was back in 47th District Court on Friday.

Cassalle Leroy Nettles, 43, of Detroit faces six felony charges, including first degree murder. Lossia was found in the store by a customer on Dec. 28; police arrested Nettles Monday afternoon.

On Friday, Nettles waived his right to a preliminary examination conference, The Oakland Press reported. His attorney told Judge Marla Parker that Nettles will be represented in future appearances by Jerome Sabota, a Royal Oak attorney.

According to the newspaper report, Oakland County Assistant Prosecutor Rob Novy said the Lossia family is asking to have the keys to the store, which has been closed by police since the shooting, “so they can start the business up again."

Nettles remains in Oakland County Jail; he is being held without bond. He's expected to be back in court on Jan. 24.
