Man's Arrest May Clear Several Offenses by Suspected Serial Church Thief

Cash has been taken from donation boxes in Farmington, Farmington Hills, West Bloomfield, Northville and Plymouth Township.

Police in Birmingham have arrested a man they believe is responsible for the theft of cash from donation box at Holy Name Catholic Church parish there, and may be able to tie up loose ends on similar crimes at churches throughout Oakland County and the surrounding area.

Anton Nrecah, 30, of Northville, was arraigned Friday in 48th District Court on a four-year felony charge of larceny from a building, The Observer & Eccentric reports. His bond was set at $20,000, with a cash surety of 10 percent.

Police received a tip after released pictures captured by the church’s surveillance cameras when the money was stolen on Feb. 22.

Birmingham Police Commander Terry Kiernan told the newspaper that detectives are investigating similar thefts from churches in West Bloomfield, Farmington, Farmington Hills, Northville and Plymouth Township.
