Updated: Wixom Man in Police Custody in I-96 Shootings Investigation

Wixom resident arrested, police say prosecutors reviewing case.

Tuesday, 2 p.m.

A 43-year-old Wixom man was arrested Monday night in connection with the I-96 Corridor Shootings which have been reported in Livingston, Oakland, Ingham and Shiawassee counties.

Police said the arrest was the result of information derived during the investigation over the past few days. Task force members arrested the man at his residence and potential evidence was been seized and will be evaluated by police crime laboratories, according to a press release.

Police also said the man drives a vehicle matching the vehicle description provided by one of the victims.

Additional information about the suspect of the investigation will not be released pending further investigation and review of the investigation by the four county prosecutor’s offices and the US Attorney’s Office for violations of law.

Original Story

Ingham County Sheriff Gene Wriggelsworth told the Associated Press in a report posted on the Huffington Post.

"We're trying to confirm whether he's our guy or not," Wriggelsworth told the AP.

Twenty-four reported shootings have occurred along the I-96 corridor since October, according to the Detroit Free Press.

The suspect is described as a white male in his late twenties or early thirties.  One witness described him as “clean-shaven.”  However, police said it is possible he may change his appearance.

Police said they believe that additional victims exist. They are asking people who travel the affected areas to inspect their cars for obvious bullet holes.

Police said they believe the suspect is familiar with the areas where the shootings occurred and may have fabricated stories regarding his activities during the time periods of the shootings.

People who know the suspect may not believe he is capable of committing these types of crimes, and he also may not necessarily have a violent criminal history, according to police.

Even with this arrest, the task force is encouraging people to remain vigilant in reporting information leading to potential suspects. Anonymous tips can be reported to 1-800-SPEAK-UP. Tips can also be reported to any local police agency; there is a $102,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
