Pest Control Worker Faces Charge in Cigar Theft

The following information was supplied by the Farmington Public Safety Department. Arrests and charges do not indicate a conviction.

A 47-year-old Center Line man who works for a pest control service faces a charge of larceny after a homeowner on Power called police Oct. 18 to report a stolen cigar.

According to the report, the homeowner told police he noticed cigars missing from his humidor after the man had been in his home on a previous occasion, providing pest control services. Before the man's Oct. 18 visit, the homeowner took a photo of his humidor, and after the man left, checked and found a cigar missing. The report indicated that police found the cigar in the man's truck, and he told police this was the first time he had taken anything in seven years with the company.

According to the report, the man had no driver's license, and when the officer attempted to search him before taking him into custody, the man pushed the officer and ran north. The officer followed on foot and after warning the man twice, deployed the Taser. The report indicated that officers had to use "control holds" to take the man, who was later identified as a parole absconder, into custody. A K9 team called to the scene found marijuana in the vehicle. The man faces charges of marijuana possession, resisting arrest and fleeing and eluding police.
