Police Arrest Farmington Hills Teen in Connection with Cell Phone Thefts

The 17-year-old Farmington Hills resident will be arraigned Friday in connection with two thefts.

Just hours after warning residents about recent cell phone thefts, Farmington Hills Police announced late Thursday that they have arrested a local teen suspected in two recent cases.

According to a press release, the 17-year-old Farmington Hills resident will be arraigned in 47th District Court on Friday. He was taken into custody Thursday by officers from the South Oakland Narcotics Intelligence Consortium and the Farmington Hills Police Directed Patrol Unit.

Since May 24, Farmington Hills police have investigated eight thefts and attempted thefts of cell phones in public places during the day. Authorities said thieves usually talk with their victims before grabbing the phone and running to waiting vehicles.

The release offered these crime prevention tips:

  • Don’t hand your phone to anyone you don’t know.
  • Keep your phone in a secure place when in public.
  • Be aware of your surroundings and approaching people while using your phone.
  • If you see suspicious activity, call 9-1-1.
Anyone with information about these cases is asked to call 248-871-2610.
