Police Blotter: Liquor Theft, Vacant Home Break-In

The following arrest information was supplied by the Farmington Hills police department. It does not indicate a conviction.

The filed these reports over the past week:

Liquor theft

The owner of on 12 Mile told police that on Monday, while a man distracted him at the counter, a woman placed a half-gallon bottle of tequila in her bag and left the store without paying for it. The incident occurred around 3:10 p.m., according to the report. The woman escaped in a vehicle; the man ran, the report said.

Home invasion

A neighbor spotted the front door cracked open at a home on Inkster early Monday morning and called police, because the homeowner was out of town. According to the report, police arrived to find the front door forced open and the home ransacked. Police contacted the owner, who was to complete a list of items stolen when he returns.

Attempted motorcycle theft

Police arrived at an address on Jefferson Court Sunday at 5 p.m. to find that a man who reported his motorcycle stolen had found it on the ground about 60 feet from where it had been parked. According to the report, the officer saw damage to the ignition and ignition lock. Neighbors told police they saw someone carrying the cycle on Sunday around 3 p.m., but thought it was the owner.

Office ransacked

Police responding to a breaking and entering alarm at Farmington Village Co-op Monday at 4:20 a.m. found the main office had been broken into and ransacked. According to the report, officers spotted wet footprints on the floor and followed them to a residence in the complex. The incident remains under investigation.

Vacant home break-in

Officers were called to a vacant home on Rensselaer at 9:10 p.m. Sunday, and found a first floor window broken and a bicycle laying underneath it. According to the report, a neighbor said he had seen a man going in and out of the home. Police caught up with the man in a nearby parking lot and took him into custody. The report did not indicate whether charges were filed.

Theft from a vehicle

A 39-year-old St. Clair Shores man told police that his work laptop computer was stolen from his car while it was parked on Larkshire Drive between 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Sunday. The man told police he left the doors unlocked, and the computer was out in plain view.

Marijuana possession, suspended license

Police arrested a 23-year-old Westland man for driving on a suspended license, speeding and marijuana possession, after stopping his vehicle late Saturday morning at 11 Mile and Middlebelt Roads. According to the report, the man told police he was rushing to get to his sister, who was upset. After he was taken into custody, he told police there was a baggie of marijuana in his vehicle.

Drunk driving

While patrolling at Grand River and Middlebelt around 9 p.m. on May 25, an officer stopped a vehicle that was drifting between lanes, swerving and riding the curb. According to the report, the driver, a 47-year-old Redford Township man, appeared intoxicated. His blood alcohol, measured by a portable breath test, was .132, more than the .08 legal limit. The man was arrested and placed in a cell at Farmington Hills Police Dept. At his request, his vehicle was left parked at Inkster and Grand River.

Firearm discharge

A 16-year-old Farmington Hills resident was arrested May 24, after police responded to a report of a man with a gun in the area of Tulane and Astor. According to the report, a neighbor watched the teen wave a gun in the air and point it north toward Tulane. Officers discovered the gun was a Sig Sauer air pistol that looked almost exactly like the real thing. The teen was charged with discharge of a firearm.
