Police Blotter: Marijuana Possession, Unpaid Bar Tab
The following arrest information was supplied by the Farmington Hills Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.
A man arrested for marijuana possession and driving with a suspended license at 2:20 a.m. Tuesday morning told police the drugs in his car were his brother's.
Officers stopped the 26-year-old Dearborn Heights man's car near Haggerty and 10 Mile because of defective brake lights, according to the police report. Police said they found an open bottle of liquor behind the passenger seat and marijuana under the ashtray in the center console. A check of the man's background showed 14 prior convictions, a suspended license and three warrants for traffic violations. He was issued a ticket for defective equipment and charged with marijuana possession and driving with a license suspension.

A 23-year-old Farmington Hills woman told police that someone took her purse out of her boyfriend's car while it was parked at Hunters Ridge Apartments between 9 p.m. Sunday and 8:30 a.m. Monday. According to the report, the car was locked and undamaged. The purse contained the woman's wallet, cell phone and $150 in cash.
Illegal dumping

The owner of on 12 Mile and Orchard Lake roads told police he spotted someone dump a large cardboard box late Monday morning. According to the report, the owner was able to give police a license plate number and a description that matched the vehicle's registered owner, a 32-year-old Richmond Township man. The box contained used furnace filters. The owner said illegal dumping is an ongoing problem.
Personal belongings missing
Cash and personal items belonging to a 34-year-old Novi woman brought to for treatment after a motorcycle accident were nowhere to be found when the woman was ready to check out Monday afternoon.
A member of the admitting staff who collected the items said she believed she put them in a hospital lock box, according to the report. Hospital staff told police they would review security tapes and report their findings.
Unpaid bar tab
Staff at called police Saturday at 11:15 p.m. to report that a couple left without paying their $61.50 bar tab. A bartender told police the man and woman have been regulars at the bar. They became argumentative when presented with their bill, said it was too high and walked out, according to the report. Police told the bartender to call if the couple return.
Damage to vehicles
Four vehicles parked in an apartment lot on Gateway Drive were damaged sometime between 12:01 a.m. June 2 and 12:01 p.m. Saturday. Letters were scratched into the paint. According to the report, police have no suspects.
House fire
Farmington Hills Fire Department responded to a basement fire at a house on 11 Mile Road around 10:45 p.m. Saturday. According to the report, the 35-year-old owner told police he fell asleep on the couch and was awakened by the smell of smoke. After he noticed smoke coming up through the floor, he told his 40-year-old wife to leave the house and tried to put the fire out himself, but the smoke was too thick. Farmington Hills Fire Department investigator Mike Kish told police the cause of the fire appeared to be faulty wiring in the basement.
Home invasion, car theft
A homeowner on Raleigh Road told police someone entered his garage and home sometime between Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 7:30 a.m., and took his 2006 Ford Explorer, his wallet and his wife's purse. Keys with a garage door opener attached were also missing. According to the report, there was no sign of force entry.
Drunk driving, concealed weapon violation
A 51-year-old Barryton man who was arrested for drunk driving early Saturday morning informed police he had a gun in the vehicle's center console. According to the report, an officer monitoring traffic on 12 Mile and Orchard Lake Roads followed a vehicle being driven erratically, stopping the driver at Bayberry and Farmington Road. Officers left the gun inside the car as sobriety tests were administered; a portable breath test showed the man's blood alcohol was .128, more than the .08 legal limit. The man had a permit to carry the gun, and the officer filing the report requested that the Oakland County gun board be notified of the incident. According to the Michigan Council of Responsible Gun Owners, state law prohibits CCW permit holders from having more than .02 blood alcohol content while carrying a gun. The man paid bond and was released.
