Police Nab Suspect in Thefts at Farmington Hills Apartment Complex

and officers worked together to nab a suspect in a series of thefts from vehicles at Green Hill Apartment complex Sept. 7. 

According to the report, officers responding to more than a dozen theft reports in the complex spotted a white minivan coming out of a parking lot in the complex. An officer stopped the driver, who said he was staying with a relative at Green Hill. When the officer asked for identification, the driver sped away. The report indicated that a Farmington Public Safety officer spotted the minivan headed east on M-5; the vehicle was stopped at Grand River and Eight Mile, and the driver was taken into custody.

Thefts from vehicles

A resident in the 34000 block of Eight Mile called police after being awakened early Tuesday morning by the sound of a saw. According to the report, the officer who responded didn't see any sign the vehicle had been entered, but when the vehicle's owner was called to start it up, the exhaust sounded louder than normal, and the theft of the vehicle's catalytic converter was discovered. 

A resident in the 34600 block of Rhonswood returned home Sunday night after being out of town and found two flashlights missing from a vehicle that had been parked in his driveway all weekend. According to the report, the vehicle had been left unlocked. 

Breaking and entering

A woman in the process of moving from a home in the 30700 block of Oak Valley Drive called police on Monday morning, after she discovered a screen removed from her unlocked kitchen window and items taken from the house. According to the report, a silverware set and some jewelry items were stolen. 

Residents in the 27400 block of Stockton called police Saturday night, after they returned to find a television set and $500 in cash from their home. According to the report, the couple told police they left the home secured, with the lights off at 4 p.m. When they came home at 9:30 p.m., the lights were on and the several rooms had been ransacked. 

Drunken driving arrest

Officers called to the scene of a single-vehicle accident at I-696 and Orchard Lake late Sunday found a 32-year-old Sterling Heights woman who was uninjured, but shaking and confused. According to the report, the woman told police she had been drinking, consuming cocaine and suboxone. A preliminary breath test showed her blood alcohol was .269, which is more than three times the .08 legal limit and qualifies the driver under Michigan's "super drunk" law (higher than .17). The woman was taken to Botsford Hospital for observation; a dog that was riding in the car with her was taken to police headquarters. 

Solicitor arrest

A resident in the 36000 block of Quakertown Lane called police at around 4 p.m. on Sept. 5, after a man selling magazines door-to-door threatened her after she refused to buy from him. According to the report, the woman said the man told her he would be back and she would be sorry. Officers found the man walking in the area; he said he did not have a soliciting permit. A check of his background showed an outstanding traffic warrant from Canton Township. The man was ticketed for soliciting without a permit, then turned over to Canton police. 

Narcotics arrest

A 22-year-old Farmington Hills man and a 19-year-old Dearborn Heights woman face narcotics charges, after police found them and a 23-year-old Detroit man in in Farmington shortly after 11 p.m. on Sept. 4. The park closes at 10 p.m. According to the report, officers aware of an ongoing problem with after-hours use of the park spotted a flame from a lighter while on foot patrol. They found the three adults in the playground area and noticed a strong odor of marijuana. A K-9 team searched the woman's vehicle and found a small bag of marijuana, a marijuana grinder and many marijuana "roaches". All three were ticketed for being in the park after hours.
