Police Report Thefts, Damage to Cars in Neighboring Communities

Among news stories throughout the region, Novi, BIrmingham, West Bloomfield and Bloomfield Township police all report incidents that occurred over the past two weeks.

Area police departments provided the following reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt.

A catalytic converter was reportedly cut off a 2002 Pontiac parked in a parking lot on the 1200 block of Derby sometime between noon and 1 p.m. on Halloween. The incident is similar to a string of catalytic converter thefts in Bloomfield Township. According to the Bloomfield Patch, catalytic converteres were cut off two vehicles on Oct. 28 and Oct. 29 at the Fox Hills Condominiums in Bloomfield Township — the fourth and fifth of such thefts in the township since the spring.

A Bloomfield Hills man charged with sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl and trying to lure her into his vehicle was recently ordered to stand trial. Oakland County Circuit Court records show Derek Wallin, 24, was bound over for trial on one count of attempted kidnapping, and one count criminal sexual conduct — fourth degree, following a preliminary hearing on Nov. 2. He remained at the Oakland County Jail Thursday on $100,000 bond.

Authorities accuse Wallin of trying to lure a 14-year-old girl into his silver Chevrolet Camaro in the area of Normandy and Tonawanda streets in Royal Oak at about 4:30 p.m. Oct. 6. The girl was walking alone in the area when he approached and offered her a ride and marijuana, police said. Read the full story on Bloomfield-Bloomfield Hills Patch.

The decision essentially ends the criminal prosecution of Marleaux Milton Webb, 24, who in turn agreed to a civil commitment to a psychiatric facility for further evaluation and treatment, Webb’s attorney Markeisha Di'Ann Washington said. Read the full story on Bloomfield-Bloomfield Hills Patch.
