POLL: Should the Dearborn Jet's Pizza Deliver to Detroit After Dark?

A new policy for the local pizza place has some questioning whether owners are singling out Detroit based on one bad experience.

An important safety measure, or an overly judgmental policy?

A new policy put in place by a has some people asking that question.

According to Fox News, the franchise's Warren Avenue location has announced that they'll no longer deliver to Detroit after dark. The decision was made after one of their delivery drivers was shot in the chest while taking a pizza to a home in the city, according to police.

Joan McKenna, mother of the delivery driver and owner of the Dearborn pizza shop, told Talk Radio 1270  that it appeared the shooter wanted to rob her 19-year-old son. When Tim McKenna attempted to flee, she said, the would-be robber shot him.

The graduate and current Adrian college student survived, but was treated for a broken rib and punctured lung.

Normally, McKenna told Fox News, the drivers deliver in pairs. But that night, the other driver had left early.

Still, she said the incident was enough to change their policy entirely.

“When you want a pizza, you live in Detroit, you want it delivered after dark, thank the guy who shot my son, thank that guy,” McKenna said.

Do you think this policy is fair? Take our poll and tell us why or why not in the comments.

Just search the news. It's been happening as far back as I can remember: http://www.google.com/#q=pizza+delivery+robbed&hl=en&safe=strict&prmd=imvnsu&source=univ&tbm=nws&tbo=u&sa=X&ei=QTkyUJLmJKWMyQGevoGgDA&ved=0CBkQqAI&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.&fp=aebbc756c1dda762&biw=1189&bih=672

it's her decision to make. Can't blame her.

She owns the business, so she can set the policies as long as it does not discriminate on the basis of race, sexual orientation, etc, etc. Heck, I don't want to travel into to any Detroit neighborhood at any time, let alone after dark. I don't have any death wishes.

I work for the Jets at 9 mile and Telegraph and we go into some very scary parts of Detroit and we don't send two drivers. I think we should and I think the Warren store is justified. I don't like going into Detroit. Delivering a pizza isn't worth getting killed for. It is only a matter of time before one of our drivers gets it too.

Lets set this article clear. Joan McKenna is not the owner of Jets. I moved out of that part of Detroit 17 years ago because of the crime. It has only got worst since. Jets deciding not to deliver at night has nothing to do with being pergudice. Anybody could have committed the crime there. It is a good buisness decition not to put your workers in a bad situation. Thank God the Owner has taken that stance. They still will deliver in day and after hours buy from another pizza place.
