Young's attorney Michael McCarthy said after the June 19 arraignment that he plans to request a separate trial for his client.

Tucker Cipriano’s attorney, Mitchell Ribitwer, initially asked for a later date for the hearing, so that his client could undergo a competency exam to determine whether he is able to assist with his own defense. At the June 19 arraignment, Ribitwer said he wants to see whether long-term drug use could have affected his client's mental state.
