Registered Sex Offender Nabbed In Attempted Kidnapping

One of two men who approached a 15-year-old female and asked her to have sex will be arraigned on felony charges.

A registered sex offender who allegedly asked a Pontiac teen for her phone number, said he wanted to have sex with her and attempted to kidnap her Thursday afternoon is behind bars, the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement Friday.

The suspect, 55, will be charged with attempted kidnapping, a five-year felony and accosting a child for immoral purposes, a four-year felony.

The 15-year-old girl ran away when the suspect, whose name has not been released pending his arraignment, tried to grab her. A citizen who witnessed what was happening and stopped to assist her called 911, the sheriff’s office said.

The attempted abduction took place about 3 p.m. Thursday in the area of Cesar Chavez and Johnson in Pontiac.

A description of the suspect and the vehicle the suspect was riding in was broadcast to deputies and other law enforcement agencies, and the vehicle was quickly located by deputies near the area where the incident occurred.

The suspect and the other occupant of the vehicle, a 42-year-old man, were taken to the sheriff’s office substation in Pontiac and interviewed. The 42-year-old was released, and the 55-year-old was taken to the Oakland County Jail.
