Southfield Man Arrested in Connection with Armed Robbery

Farmington Hills Police say the man forced a Hills woman to give up her purse at gunpoint.

have made an arrest in connection with an armed robbery that occurred Tuesday morning at Cordoba Apartments.

Edward Dodson, 43, of Southfield has been arraigned in 47th District Court and is being held on $500,000 bond. His next court appearance is Wednesday.

According to the police report, a 46-year-old woman was accosted around 1:20 a.m. Tuesday as she walked to her home on Cordoba Drive. The woman told police a man dressed in black and wearing a ski mask walked up, demanded her purse and pointed a big, dark gun at her. The woman refused, he grabbed the bag she was carrying, and they struggled until she let go, the report said.

The suspect ran from the scene. The Farmington Hills K-9 team later recovered the stolen bag in a wooded area nearby.

Hills Detective Dave Stasch said that as police responded to the armed robbery, an officer spotted a man on a motorcycle leaving a nearby parking lot. Officers gave chase, but the man managed to elude police.

Later that morning, Hills Police Chief Chuck Nebus said, Dodson walked into the Southfield Police Department and reported that someone had broken into his garage and stolen his motorcycle and riding gear. Stasch said Southfield Police knew Hills authorities were looking for Dodson and arrested him.

Nebus said Dodson faces a charge of armed robbery that resulted in a personal injury, which carries a penalty of life or any term of years, and a charge of fleeing or eluding a police officer, which carries a two-year penalty. According to the Michigan Department of Corrections Offender Tracking website, Dodson is on parole after being sentenced in 1990 for armed robbery, weapons violations and breaking and entering.
