State Honors Farmington Hills Officers for Cipriano Homicide Response

Six officers received state Distinguished Service Awards for their actions at the crime scene in 2012.

Six Farmington Hills Police officers have received state-wide recognition for their work at the scene of a horrific 2012 attack on a Farmington Hills family.

Officers Thomas Shivak, Michael Meister, Eric Buckberry, Andrew Plemmons, Michael Connolly and Christopher Weiss received the Police Officers Association of Michigan’s (P.O.A.M) Distinguished Service Award for 2012, at the organization's annual convention held recently in Grand Rapids.

Called to the Cipriano family home early on the morning of April 16, 2012, the officers found Bob Cipriano, 52, murdered and his wife, Rose, and son, Salvatore, severely beaten. The officers helped save the lives of Rose and Salvatore, and their actions led to the rescue of additional family members, as well as the capture of Mitchell Young inside the home and the later capture of Tucker Cipriano, the Ciprianos' oldest son, in Keego Harbor.

Farmington Hills Police Chief Charles Nebus and Commander Michael Ciaramitaro attended the ceremony, as did most members of the Michigan Supreme Court, Secretary of State Ruth Johnson, Attorney General Bill Schuette and other state officials.
