Track Crime in Farmington with New Mapping Service

Residents now have access to daily information about where crimes have occurred in the city.

Farmington residents can now access information about crimes in the community on a daily basis.

The Department of Public Safety on Tuesday announced that information about incidents will be plotted at crimemapping.com, a website developed by The Omega Group to help law enforcement agencies provide residents with information about recent criminal activity in their neighborhoods.

According to a department press release, the company daily collects general crime information from the public safety records system, and information is checked for accuracy. All address information is generalized, to ensure privacy.

Once the map of Farmington is selected, residents will see icons that show where different types of crimes have occurred. The theft/larceny icon, for instance, is a dollar sign. Information provided includes a general location, time and date, as well as a case number. Residents can find out how close they live to each incident and sign up for e-mail crime alerts.

“This website is another tool our residents can use to keep informed about criminal activity in their neighborhoods," Commander Frank Demers said.

Farmington Public Safety also sends out crime alerts and other information through nixle.com.
