A 54-year-old Trenton man faces a charge of retail fraud, after he took two cappuccino machines from Starbucks on Grand River in Farmington on Monday.
According to a Farmington Public Safety report, an employee told officers that the man brought the two machines, each valued at $199, up to the counter. He showed the clerk sticky notes on the machines that indicated the items had been paid for and said he was picking them up for the friend who bought them, the report indicated.
When the employee went to check with a manager, the man took the machines and ran out of the store, headed east. According to the report, officers found him at the Grand River and Grove bus stop, less than a block from the store, and the machines were at the man's side. The man repeated the story he told the store clerk.
In addition to recovering the cappuccino machines, officers found a number of sticky notes bearing messages that items had been bought and paid for, the report indicated.
