A 51-year-old Michigan woman made a point Monday, but perhaps not the one she intended.
The woman, whose name has not been released, reportedly slammed the butt end of a shotgun against the floor during a family dispute “to make a point,” and accidentally shot herself in the face, MLive/The Saginaw News reports.
The Tuscola County Sheriff’s Office was called to the residence in Fremont Township at about 10 a.m. Monday to investigate a report of a gunshot victim.
She was taken by air ambulance to a Saginaw Hospital and is expected to recover, according to the report.
Police are continuing their investigation.

Numerous studies have shown that the likelihood of being injured in gun violence increase greatly when a gun is kept in the home, according to a 2011 meta-review published by David Hemenway, the executive director of the Harvard Injury Control Research Center.
He looked at scientific literature on the health risks and benefits of gun ownership and found that hundreds of Americans are killed accidentally each year with guns, according to a report on MinnPost. He said nonfatal gunshot injuries occur at an average rate of about 20 a day. He cited one study that showed most nonfatal accidental shootings were self-inflicted, and most occurred during routine gun handling.
