A 51-year-old Michigan woman made a point Monday, but perhaps not the one she intended.

The woman, whose name has not been released, reportedly slammed the butt end of a shotgun against the floor during a family dispute “to make a point,” and accidentally shot herself in the face, MLive/The Saginaw News reports.

The Tuscola County Sheriff’s Office was called to the residence in Fremont Township at about 10 a.m. Monday to investigate a report of a gunshot victim.

She was taken by air ambulance to a Saginaw Hospital and is expected to recover, according to the report.

Police are continuing their investigation.

Weird Michigan News:

Numerous studies have shown that the likelihood of being injured in gun violence increase greatly when a gun is kept in the home, according to a 2011 meta-review  published by David Hemenway, the executive director of the Harvard Injury Control Research Center.

He looked at scientific literature on the health risks and benefits of gun ownership and found that hundreds of Americans are killed accidentally each year with guns, according to a report on MinnPost.

He said nonfatal gunshot injuries occur at an average rate of about 20 a day. He cited one study that showed most nonfatal accidental shootings were self-inflicted, and most occurred during routine gun handling.

Why didn't she just slam her fist on the nearest table to make her point. Slamming a loaded gun, instead? That woman seems to be a few marbles short of a bag.

Ignore the Harvard Study - they try to pussyfoot around the number of deliberate self-harm incidents and make the bogus assumption that the suicides wouldn't happen without firearms; I can assure everyone that yes, they do continue to happen. Diving off the Golden Gate is very popular here in the Bay Area, along with hanging one's self and diving off of freeway overpasses.

the only thing she proved was how stupid she is - shot guns almost always go off when the butt is slam against a hard obstacle because the trigger usually goes towards the same direction of the impact , towards the butt of the gun - what a stupid thing to do - whats it take ? less than 7 lbs of pressure to pull a trigger
