5 Residents Apply for Farmington City Council Seat

Five Farmington residents have applied for the city council seat left vacant following former Farmington city council member Kristin Kuiken's resignation.

Kuiken resigned her post in May, because her family will be moving this summer.

The deadline to apply for the seat was Tuesday.

An article in the Farmington Observer lists Sara Bowman, Robert Fougere, Dwayne Hayes, Jeffery Scott and Steven Schneemann as the applicants. Bowman, Scott and Schneeman are members of the city's Planning Commission.

The city council is expected to appoint Kuiken’s replacement, by majority vote. The person appointed will then serve the remainder of Kuiken's term which expires November 2015.

The Observer article states the applications are expected to be discussed at the council’s June 21 special meeting, and public interviews will follow at a to-be-determined date.

Council members faced a similar situation when Michael Wiggins resigned before the 2011 election. Council member Bill Galvin was appointed to fill the remaining two years of Wiggins' term and is up for re-election this year.
