Campaign Finance: 14th District Oakland County Commission Race

Incumbent Commissioner Bill Dwyer has a war chest more than three times larger than challenger Todd Stearn headed into the general election campaign season.

In the race for the newly drawn 14th Oakland County Commission seat, incumbent Bill Dwyer (R-Farmington Hills) is already out-raising and out-spending Demcoratic opponent Todd Stearn.

Campaign finance reports filed July 27 show Dwyer raised $21,125 during the reporting period, while Stearn raised $13,714. You can find both candidates' reports online at oakgov.com; here are some of the highlights: 

Balances

Dwyer is taking more than $40,000 into the general election campaign season, while Stearn's campaign fund has a balance of just over $11,700.

Geography

The vast majority of the more than 120 contributions on Stearn's finance report come from Oakland County residents, including a handful from Farmington and Farmington Hills. Dwyer, who received just under 100 contributions, received most of his money from Oakland County as well, a third from Farmington and Farmington Hills.

Political Action Committee contributions

Dwyer received a $200 contribution from the Local 3317 PAC Oakland County Sheriff Commanders, $200 from ITC Holdings Corp. PAC, and $500 from Sterling PAC. Stearn reports receiving an in-kind contribution of labor from Oakland County Democratic Commissioners.

Spending

Both candidates have spent money primarily on literature, office expenses and food, $4,199 for Dwyer and $1,945 for Stearn.
