City of Farmington Hills EcoFest 2012 Features Electric Car Display

Family fun at this free event includes an urban nature hike, a reptile show, and craft projects.

The City of Farmington Hills EcoFest 2012, held from 12 p.m.-3 p.m., June 16, will treat car enthusiasts to a display of plug-in electric vehicles including cars from Fisker of Detroit, Ford, GM, Mercedes, Mitsubishi, Nissan, and Toyota.

The free “eco-friendly” event, held on at 11 Mile and Orchard Lake Roads, will also feature family fun including an urban nature hike, a reptile show, and craft projects, plus displays and information on environmental awareness, sustainability, and energy efficiency.

EcoFest 2012 will showcase technologies such as solar panels, geothermal heating, and LED lighting, which can all be used by residents to save money and energy. Self-guided tours of city hall will showcase how these innovative technologies were used in the recent building renovation.

Other highlights of EcoFest 2012 will include:

  • Free white pine seedlings for the first 250 participants courtesy of DTE

  • Rain garden and composting tips from SOCWA

  • Recycled craft projects from Peace, Love & Planet and the Recycling Authority

  • Information on Consumers Energy and DTE Energy rebate programs

  • Home Energy Audits by Ecotelligent Homes

  • In addition, EcoFest will include an on-site Rain Barrel sale sponsored by the Alliance of Rouge Communities (ARC). Rain barrels with a 60-gallon capacity will be available for $65 ($99 retail value).
