Bill Smith, who helped with Dwyer’s campaign, said the coffee hour is a result of the commissioner's caring nature and open dialogue.

“There are too many times that politicians put themselves up in an ivory tower rather than reaching out to the people that they represent,” Smith said.

Jerry Krist of Farmington attended the coffee hour to discuss the road commission with Dwyer and express frustration with how money is spent on snow and ice removal.

Ken Walton has known Dwyer for many years and is happy that other community members will get the chance to speak with him.

“People like him,” he said. “He knows what he’s talking about.”

Dwyer also discussed the OakWIN radio system that connects police, firefighters and other agencies. Thursday marked the completion of complete interoperability throughout the county using the system.

“It’s a definite must,” Dwyer said. “It doesn’t matter if you’re the state police or if you’re the sheriff’s department, you’re Wixom, Walled Lake, Novi, Farmington Hills, Farmington, you’ve got to be able to communicate.”

Dwyer will be meeting with seniors at the this Tuesday to discuss programs such as the Oakland County Discount Dental program.
